The Botanical City
The Botanical City, a busy person's guide to the wondrous plants you can find, eat and grow in the city is a stunning new collaboration from Kew and Hoxton Mini Press.
Author: Hélèna Dove and Harry Adès. 192 pp. 19.35 x 1.85 x 29.24 cm. Hardback, ISBN 978 9781910566794, Kew Publishing, 2020.
This stunning new book takes inspiration from Flora Londinensis, an 18th century botanical account of London by William Curtis, housed in Kew's Library. William Curtis is famous for establishing Curtis's Botanical Magazine, the longest-running illustrated botanical periodical journal still published today. The plants in Flora Londinensis are not only still with us in cities all over the world but are more relevant and important than ever before.
The Botanical City brings Curtis's work to life with modern, playful text written by Kew horticultural expert Hélèna Dove and esteemed author Harry Adès, along with beautiful botanical illustrations taken from the original work. Inside is a wealth of unusual facts, recipes, growing tips and more, making this the perfect gift.
176 pages, 75 colour botanical illustrations, 283 x 184 mm. Hardback, ISBN 978-1-910566-79-4, Hoxton Mini Press in association with RBG Kew, 2020.
Hélèna Dove manages the Kitchen Garden at The Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, and author of The Kew Gardener's Guide to Growing Vegetables. Cultivating everything from the allotment staples to more unusual edibles, she is a strong believer in using what grows around us to benefit our daily lives.
Harry Adès is the author of An Opinionated Guide to London Green Spaces and A Field Guide to East London Wildlife, and many other titles besides. His two children are far more talented gardeners than he is, and his cats eat the flowers off his only rose bush.
