The Kew Trug has been exclusively developed and handmade for Kew Gardens by The Truggery in a dedicated workshop in Sussex using methods and materials that have remained unchanged for hundreds of years. Known as the 'Sussex Trug' due to its distinctive rectangular shape with rounded corners, this basket is a versatile choice and won't be too heavy when full. The materials, sourced from locally coppiced Sweet Chestnut and Willow, enhance the strength and durability of this basket. Requiring minimal maintenance, it is built to last for generations.

Featuring a Trowel with rose motif, an essential planting and weeding tool, ideal to use in borders, pots and tubs. Made with sustainably sourced  ash handle and top quality stainless steel metalwork, it's finished with a very thick and durable copper coat and comes with a useful leather strap designed to hang beautifully in your potting shed or garage.

Part of the Rose & Garden Trug Collection are also the Kew Exclusive Gardening Gloves featuring a stylish rose floral print inspired by the botanical artworks from the Kew Archives. They are both soft and durable, featuring a cushioned palm and a gathered wrist for enhanced comfort and protection.

The Kew Exclusive watering can for indoor plants is perfectly paired with the Rose & Garden Trug Collection. Featuring a vibrant and stylish rose design on a deep blue base, it has an elegant slender spout to ensure the water only goes into the plant pot.

This collection also includes a Kew seed mix of Wildflowers which bees will just love! This carefully selected seed mix is designed to attract honey bees, bumblebees and solitary bees (such as mason bees and mining bees), helping to support the biodiversity and ecosystem of your garden.

This trug is locally made in Hers Monceaux, East Sussex using locally sourced and sustainably coppiced Sweet Chestnut and Willow.
Trug making plays a small but important part in helping maintain our coppiced woodlands which support a diverse range of flora and fauna.  Areas of Sweet Chestnut poles are traditionally cut in rotation to supply not just trug wood but also hop poles, fencing stakes, bean poles, pea sticks, for building and charcoal production: every bit of wood can be put to use.
The willow used for trug boards and feet is a waste product of the cricket bat industry.  Trug production methods are very low impact and create little waste.  Offcuts end up as hurdles or firewood, sawdust is composted and shavings go for animal bedding.
