Product Description
These Chive (Allium schoenoprasum) seeds produce slender, vibrant green spears with a delicate, mild onion flavour that enhances without overpowering.
A snip of fresh chives can transform a simple baked potato, elevate scrambled eggs, or add a professional finishing touch to soups and salads.
Your chive plant will reward you year after year, forming a neat clump that bursts into a display of beautiful, lavender-pink pom-pom flowers in late spring. These charming blossoms are not only edible but also a magnet for beneficial pollinators like bees, adding life and biodiversity to your garden.
This seed packet includes:
- Approx. 100 seeds.
- Harvesting months: March, April, May, June, July, August, September, October, November, December
- Sowing info: Indoors - fill a seed tray or pots with good, free-draining, seed compost. Outdoors - prepare the soil by raking until it is fine and crumbly, removing any large stones. Sow on the surface of the compost and cover with a sprinkling of compost or vermiculite. Place in a propagator or seal container inside a polythene bag and place at 20-25˚C (68-77˚F) until after germination. Do not exclude light, as this helps germination. Can also be sown outdoors once the ground has warmed, 6mm (¼") deep, in rows 20cm (8") apart.
- Transplant seedlings in bunches into trays or 7.5cm (3")pots. Grow on in cooler conditions for 10-15 days before planting out after all risk of frost has passed, 30cm (12") apart. Thin out seedlings sown outdoors to 30cm (12") apart.
