In addition to a comphrehensive introduction discussing the biology, classification, biogeography and economic importance of these intriguing parasites, there are separate chapters on the haustoria of Loranthaceae (by Clyde Calvin and Carol Wilson) and pollination mechanisms of African Loranthaceae (by Donald Kirkup).
About the Authors:
Roger M. Polhill: Roger Marcus Polhill was one of Britain's most respected botanists and taxonomists, renowned for his extensive work on African flora and plant classification. Associated with the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, Polhill made major contributions to botanical research, taxonomy and floristic studies across Africa. His expertise in plant systematics helped establish him as a leading authority on tropical plant diversity and botanical documentation.
Delbert Wiens: Delbert Wiens was an internationally recognised botanist whose research focused on parasitic flowering plants, especially mistletoes. His groundbreaking studies on the taxonomy, evolution and biology of mistletoes significantly advanced scientific understanding of these unique plant groups. His collaboration with Roger Polhill produced one of the most authoritative works ever written on African mistletoes.
