The species Blepharis forms a vital part of the flora of tropical and South Africa, with many species being economically important fodder plants, despite their spiny habit. This monograph describes all 126 recognised species (35 as new), illustrates 59 of them, and contains 48 distribution maps.
Kaj Vollesen is an Honorary Research Fellow at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. He was Principal Scientific Officer in Kew's Herbarium until his retirement in 2006.
