Henry Moore: Kew Gardens takes a close look at the 30 outdoor sculptures showcased in the major exhibition Henry Moore: Monumental Nature at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, organised with the Henry Moore Foundation.
Henry Moore is one of the most distinctive and important British artists of the twentieth century. His fascination with the interplay between humankind and nature is brought to life in this book, where sculpted forms are alternately grounded in expansive natural environments and set as an organic contrast to Kew’s historic buildings, manicured gardens and Victorian glasshouses.
Stunning photography captures the iconic sculptures in dialogue with Kew’s varied landscapes, intricate architecture, and century-old trees. Journey through the leafy grounds of Kew and experience the works as Moore intended, through shifting light and shadow, and changing weather. Bronze emerges as a defining presence, from its richly textured surfaces to the sunlight that glints across a smooth, shiny finish.
This fresh perspective on Moore’s legacy invites readers to reflect on the relationship between art, nature and humanity. Henry Moore: Kew Gardens is the perfect keepsake of a visit to a landmark exhibition.
