Grown at Kew Ash Glass Vase, Small
Product Description
Crafted as part of our Grown at Kew collection, this unique glass vase has been created using waste timber ash sourced from trees felled within Kew’s world-famous arboretum.
Developed in collaboration with glass artist, designer, and material researcher Lulu Harrison, the collection brings together art, science, and sustainability, transforming materials from Kew Gardens into beautifully crafted glassware. Each piece reflects Kew’s ongoing commitment to sustainability and traceability, building on the principles of the Grown at Kew range, where materials from responsibly managed trees are repurposed into distinctive, handcrafted objects.

About the vase:
Working closely with the Sheffield Hallam University Glass Research Group, Harrison has combined timber ash with mixed wood ash, wine lees, recycled glass, and waste cullet to pioneer a new glass batch formulation. This innovative approach reflects both historic glassmaking traditions and cutting-edge sustainable material research, resulting in a unique, limited collection.
About Lulu Harrison:
Lulu Harrison: She is a geo-alchemist glass artist based between London and Oxford. Her work draws on primitive glassmaking techniques and focuses on using local and waste materials to create artefacts with minimal environmental impact.
This project brings her together with expert collaborators, including mould maker Benjamin Gough, who has crafted bespoke moulds from Kew’s felled cherry logs based on her designs. The final stage of production is led by glassblower and sculptor Elliot Walker, working in collaboration with Blowfish Glass, whose skilled craftsmanship brings each piece to life.
