Although grasses are often overlooked or denigrated as mere weeds, they have many diverse uses as sustenance for animals, in medical treatments and as construction materials in crafts like basketry and roofing. Rice, maize and sugar cane are integral to the Malagasy diet and but only a few examples of the many grass species which are depended upon to feed humans globally.
Compiled by a team of Malagasy and international botanists lead by the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, the Kew Madagascar Conservation Centre, and numerous partner institutions, this essential bilingual guide in Malagasy and English consolidates accessible expert-generated information.
