Editors: Iain Darbyshire, Maha Kordofani, Imadeldin Farag, Ruba Candiga and Helen Pickering. 410pp. 234 x 156mm. Paperback, ISBN 978 1 84246 473 1, Kew Publishing 2015.

The Republic of Sudan and the recently independent Republic of South Sudan together cover a vast area of tropical northeast Africa, ranging from hyper-arid desert in the north to rainforest and extensive wetlands in the south, and contain a diverse flora of nearly 4000 species. This is the first publication dedicated to the flora of this region since F.W. Andrews’ Flowering Plants of the Anglo-Egyptian Sudan, 1950–1956. This up to date and comprehensive checklist provides a baseline reference for all future botanical and conservation work across the Sudan and South Sudan region.

In addition to the checklist, a preliminary list of globally threatened plant species, their habitats and distribution within the region is included, which will provide conservationists, land management agencies and relevant governmental departments with key information on potential conservation priorities.
