Life in Death is the most comprehensive collection to date of work by artist Rebecca Louise Law.

The book documents the evolution of Law’s unique artistic practice, using flowers as preserved sculptural material. A journey through the earliest experiments, to her best known immersive installations, via a series of beautifully documented photographs, it also provides a unique insight into the life and influences of the artist, including an introduction written by Law.

The title culminates with exclusive imagery of Life in Death, Law’s forthcoming exhibition showcasing a sculptural installation at the heart of Kew’s Shirley Sherwood Gallery, which pays homage to the expertise in preservation throughout Kew's collections, and represents a symbol of natural durability which is central to Law's practice.

With a foreword by Richard Barley, Director of Horticulture, Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. Commentary by Christopher Woodward, Director of the Garden Museum. And essay by Mark Nesbitt, curator of the Economic Botany Collection at Kew.

Life in Death runs from 7 October 2017 – 11 March 2018 in the Shirley Sherwood Gallery of Botanical Art, Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew.

Rebecca Louise Law is an internationally renowned installation artist based in East London, specialising in artworks made with natural materials, namely flora. She is best known for her installations of thousands of flowers suspended from the ceilings of public spaces, from New York to Melbourne and Berlin. The physicality and sensuality of her site specific work plays with the relationship between humanity and nature. Each sculpture highlights the beauty of natural change. The work evolves as nature takes its course and offers an alternative concept of beauty; embracing preservation and decay.
